ANTONINA'S FLOWERS
Antonina brought me flowers today.
I hadn't seen her in awhile,
her long brown hair still trying to be set free
in a more grown-up way.
She came practicing her friendly habits,
moments of cheer and kindnesses
for needy and un-needy both...
A little knock: “From our garden,
Yes, goodbye.”
Otherwise, the hour was quite routine,
the slow short time of after-school.
Tonight the kitchen blazes
with the red-roseness of Antonina's blush
and her flowers.
